Collection & Request Instructions

This test is available on the following specimens:            

  1. Urine (10 - 20 mL of first pass urine)
  2. Endocervical swabs
  3. Vaginal swabs  
  4. Eye swabs
  5. Rectal swabs
  6. Urethral swabs
  7. Throat swabs

Swab specimens must be collected using the Cobas PCR female swab .Sample packet which is available from Central Specimen Processing in Pathology or by ordering through the Pathology website.

For N. gonorrhoeae investigation from eye or throat swabs, culture is recommended. A gel swab is essential for this test. Indicate gonorrhoea culture is required on the request form.

Eye swabs are to be referred to VIDRL using the VID panel.

All specimens for this test need to be entered under individual request numbers. Swab specimens must be collected using the Cobas PCR female swab .Sample packet which is available from Central Specimen Processing in Pathology or by ordering through the Pathology website.
