24th October 2022 | Collection & Request Instructions | It is recommended to obtain a lower respiratory tract specimen (eg. sputum, BAL, endotracheal aspirates) where practicable. If not, a nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab may be collected using the Flu collection kit. Both swabs should be placed together in the same tube with liquid media.
All specimens should be delivered by hand, not by pneumatic tubes. | If a sputum, bronchial washing, bronchial lavage or endotrachial aspirate are only able to be collected and a recollection is not possible there will be a delay in result turnaround time as the testing will be performed by an external laboratory.
