Registration Instructions:

Contact the chemical pathologist before registration.

Glucose samples: register EGT. Five barcode labels (one request number) will be generated for baseline (fasting) and +30 minutes, +60 minutes, +90 minutes and +120 minutes post glucose load. The test is performed in-house at NPV.

Growth hormone (GH) samples: register a separate request number and actual collection time for each sample.

Collection & Request Instructions:

Contact the chemical pathologist before the start of collections.

1. The patient should fast from 10pm the day prior to the morning test.

2. Collect baseline glucose and GH, and IGF-1 (if IGF-1 is requested).

3. Give 75g oral glucose load.

4. Collect GH (SST tube) and Glucose (Fluoride Oxalate tube) every 30 minutes for 2 hours.

Processing Instructions:

GH: Collect SST tube at ambient temperature, centrifuge, aliquot, store frozen (for sendaway to the Alfred Pathology Service)

Glucose: Collect fluoride oxalate tube at ambient temperature, centrifuge. Analysed in-house at NPV
