Micro-tube 1: CSF lactate (RCH) 

Micro-tube 2: CSF amino acids (VCG)

Micro-tubes 3, 4 & 5: CSF neurotransmitters (CHW)

Adults Volume or Mass:2.5 mL
Minimum/Paediatric Volume or Mass:2.5 mL
Collection & Request Instructions:

Collect CSF micro-tubes from pathology specimen reception.

For each micro-tube, 0.5 mL CSF is required.

Place micro-tubes wrapped in foil on ice pillow.

For other CSF tests, standard collection requirements apply.

Transport Instructions:

Keep micro-tubes wrapped in foil on ice pillow.

Processing Instructions:

Micro-tube 1: CSF lactate (RCH) - freeze -20 C 

Micro-tube 2: CSF amino acids (VCG) - freeze -70 C

Micro-tubes 3, 4 & 5: CSF neurotransmitters (CHW) - freeze -70 C

External Laboratory:The Children's Hospital at Westmead
External Transport Instructions:Send Frozen on Dry Ice

Micro-tube 1: CSF lactate (RCH) - send frozen on dry ice to RCH Laboratory 

Micro-tube 2: CSF amino acids (VCG) - send frozen on dry ice to VCGS Laboratory 

Micro-tubes 3, 4 & 5: CSF neurotransmitters (CHW) - send frozen on dry ice to Clinical Biochemistry, The Children's Hospital at Westmead

Samples must be transported with sufficient dry ice to ensure samples remain frozen at all times.
