Registration Instructions

Must receive a 10ml EDTA to perform this test.

Only BCRABL p210 requests on blood samples are performed in-house.

Non-blood samples (eg bone marrow) and/or non-p210 requests (ie rarer transcripts) are to be sent out  - if it is p190, use B19 and send out to PMC. For other rare transcripts, the sendout lab will depend on the requested transcripts (use generic lab-specific code).

For bone marrow/non blood samples and/or non-p210 requests, collection and transport needs to be sent to refering laboratory within 24hrs of collection.

Specimens to be collected only on Monday to Thursday (Except for where a public holiday falls on the following day). Specimens more than 48 hours old cannot be tested and a recollection will be requested.

Please ensure that blood for molecular testing for BCRABL is collected in a separate dedicated sterile tube. Molecular specimens must NOT be put through any analysers. If unsure please call the Genetics and Molecular Pathology laboratory.

Tube handling must be minimized to prevent contamination.

 

Note, as this test is not covered by Medicare, non-Northern Health patients will be responsible for the cost incurred, and patient consent must be obtained.    As at July 2023, this fee is $250.
