Sendaway test to the Clinical Cytogenetics Service.

Authorisation: Pathologist authorisation required. Sample selection requires pathologist triage.

Resulting: Assay results are incorporated into a supplementary biopsy report issued by the pathologist.

Processing Instructions

If a specimen needs to be shared between histology and cytogenetics CSR are to contact the Anatomical Pathologist during working hours. After hours and weekends leave a note for the Anatomical Pathologist on the sendaway bench.

If a specimen needs to be shared between histology and cytogenetics during Anatomical Pathology working hours; CSR are to give specimen to AP where it will be appropriately split. Out of hours, specimen is to be placed in the AP bucket in the fridge to be split the next working day.

Collection & Request Instructions:

Fresh tissue (placental chorionic villi, foetal skin, cartilage, cord or muscle) is required for this assay.

Collect tissue in sterile manner and place in sterile RPMI.

Do not place tissue in formalin.

Deliver immediately to NPV Central Specimen Processing.

Sample allocation for assay will occur via Pathologist.

The chromosome assay is based cell culture so viable cells are essential.
